During the next few months the good people of America will be filing their taxes, and most will be receiving a hefty amount back in a return. For most this is one of the few times they can actually make plans to buy things, for others this time of the year brings headache. But what brings these two people on equal ground is money.
Money is not evil in itself, money is what makes the world go around and it is impossible to live in the modern age without it. It’s the love of money that causes so many problems. People have been killed, kidnapped, betrayed, etc all over money. It’s hard to believe that a piece of green paper could bring out the worst in man. Currency has virtually always existed only in different forms, once money took the form of common good such as bread, barley, etc. In some poorer cultures currency took the form of rocks.
We work every day to make money and to provide for our families, but let’s not place the love of money over the love for our Savior. There is a certain order in which we should handle money; 10 % is given back to God, then our bills and needs are to be taken care of and what’s left over what we wish. As long as we keep our hearts in check we will never let money or any type of material thing take God’s place in our lives.
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6:10 KJV)
