While walking home from taking my son to school I saw something unusual, a banana peel on the sidewalk and it wasn’t there on the descent up. Had I not saw the banana peel I probably would have slipped and fell on it and as I passed by it reminded me of how easy it is to “slip up” in our daily walk as Christians. We mess up all the time and sin constantly, but what makes us different from others is the fact that we are forgiven. When we take our sins and short comings to Jesus and ask earnestly for forgiveness He is just to do so and doesn’t remember it any more. The sneaky devil likes to use our past sins and mistakes to make us “slip up” again so it’s important to always be on our guard against this snake.
When I first started working in my calling the biggest thing I was afraid of was messing up and not being perfect. I would get depressed and tell myself that I should have never been chosen to serve God because I can never do anything right. But in retrospect I realized the decision was not mine, God is the one who chose me and I chose to answer yes! God knew me before I was born and knows of my sins and imperfections, so there is no room for doubt when it comes to serving God. Just do the best that you can and don’t beat yourself up because you can’t be perfect. Ask God for forgiveness and move forward trying not to repeat that mistake. Gives a whole new meaning to forgive and forget doesn’t it?
I love the saying Christians aren’t perfect just forgiven, that is so true. People out in the world will watch us for slip ups and try to use our human nature to disprove Jesus, but the most lucrative thing a child of Christ can do is let them see you get back up and handle the situation in the most Christian-like manner possible. If anything your leading by example, where words fail actions speak louder. So today I extend a challenge to live your life in the godliest manner possible, confident and bold. Going out and seeking souls to save knowing that even though you may not be perfect, but you’re forgiven.
In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: (Colossians 1:14 KJV)
"Forgiveness is God's invention for coming to terms with a world in which, despite their best intentions, people are unfair to each other and hurt each other deeply. He began by forgiving us. And he invites us all to forgive each other."-Lewis B. Smedes
