On my vacation last week I was discussing friends with my sister-in-law and she proposed a concept that I had never really thought of. She said you have small dose friends and large dose friends. The small dose of course are the ones you love but can only handle in small increments and the large dose are the ones you can’t seem to get enough of. As I thought about this idea I came to realize that I have one maybe two large dose friends in my life the biggest and most important of which is Jesus. But Jesus surpasses any friend I could ever have or hope to have. He never leaves me nor forsakes me and always listens when I have something to say without interrupting and most importantly He loves me unconditionally.
A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24)
The sad fact about our relationship with Jesus is most of us take Him for granted, He waits patiently for us to interact with Him and we choose instead to lean on petty vices and rely on superficial friends for temporary fixes for a problem Jesus easily could have taken care of. And the bonus to taking our problems to Jesus is you never have to worry about His opinion of you changing depending upon the situation, He loves us regardless of everything!
I personally enjoy talking to God, I try to do it as often as possible and I approach Him like He is my best friend I find it’s easier to have a conversation that way. I could just imagine what the Old Testament people would have thought about me calling God “Big G.” Nevertheless the point I’m trying to convey is what God wants the most from us is a relationship and like any other relationship it requires time and work. So today if you are not as close to Jesus as you would like to be now is a great time to start working on that. I can personally promise it will be the wisest and most lucrative move you will ever make. Not only will you gain a true friend but you will also see the rest of your life start to change for the better.
